:: week the tenth ::

i'm actually almost 11 weeks, but due to busyness and the fatigue of a mountain-climber, i have procrastinated this post.

(according to babycenter.com) baby's size is now  a little over an inch or so long, crown to bottom (about the size of a kumquat) — and weighs less than a quarter of an ounce.  baby has now completed the most critical portion of development. this is the beginning of the so-called fetal period, a time when the tissues and organs in the body rapidly grow and mature.

baby's swallowing fluid and kicking up a storm. vital organs — including the kidneys, intestines, brain, and liver (now making red blood cells in place of the disappearing yolk sac) — are in place and starting to function.  tiny nails are forming on fingers and toes (no more webbing) and peach-fuzz hair is beginning to grow on tender skin. baby's limbs can bend now. The outline of baby's spine is clearly visible through translucent skin, and spinal nerves are beginning to stretch out from the spinal cord.

these days, i'm feeling more tired than anything.  still appetite-less.  not much change since last time.  i have a doctor's appointment on thursday, so we'll hear baby's heartbeat again!  this pregnancy is taking its time -- nice and slow.  i'm glad.  remind me in a few months that i said that.  right now, i'm just trying to get through each day without falling over.
